Facebook Live: Tax Questions

Austin immigration attorney, Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch hosts Facebook Live with tax preparer Steve Villegas and Rosy Doyle.

Steve offers advice and answers some of the most frequently asked questions.

They go over what all undocumented immigrants should know before filing taxes. As always, it is imperative that you consult with your attorney before filing any documents while you have an open immigration case. All of the information in your case documents and tax documents must be consistent.

Question: What is needed for ID numbers?

Mr. Villegas recommends beginning the process of filing for an ID number as soon as possible.

Question: Is it okay if there are errors in my documents?

Mistakes happen. The important thing is that they are corrected as soon as possible. It is also important that you bring all documents with errors to be revised and edited with your attorney. It is beneficial to your case that they be corrected as soon as possible before the IRS.

Regarding large debt – Kate Lincoln-Goldfinch explains that they should be under $2,000 and the applicant must also be able to demonstrate that payments have been made prior to filing for a citizenship application.
