Bryker Woods, TX

The neighborhood of Bryker Woods is bounded on the North by 35th St., on the east by N. Lamar Blvd., on the west by MoPac Expy, and on the south by Westover Rd. Immediately to the east of it is Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin.

Education

The neighborhood is known for being in close proximity to the convenience of downtown Austin and the excellent schools around it. It even has its own elementary school, Bryker Woods Elementary School. It is highly rated and offers quality education. Other schools include:

• Barton Hills Elementary
• Casis Elementary School
• Rawson Saunders School

And most significantly, the neighborhood is very close to the University of Texas. 

Recreation

Bryker Woods homes were mostly built between the 1930s and 1950s but homeowners have maintained them well and they have retained classic charm. Surrounded by beautiful trees and well-maintained lawns, the neighborhood is recognized in the National Register of Historic Places. 

Residents do not run out of activities, be it outdoor fun or shopping and dining. Several parks are available for family activities and individual respite. Some of these parks are:

• Hartford Triangle
• Jarrat Triangle Park

Many families and friends visit the parks for kite-flying, picnics, physical exercise, or just to relax in the cool shade of trees. Bryker Woods is home to two golf courses, the Hancock Golf Course and the Lions Municipal Golf Course. 

Despite being a largely residential area, residents have easy access to shopping and dining establishments around the perimeter of the community. Some popular restaurants are:

• Tiny Boxwoods Austin – they serve delicious American classics
• Musashino Sushi Dokoro – as its name implies, is a Japanese restaurant
• The Beer Plant – described as a “taproom serving creative vegan fare”
• Olive & June – Italian restaurant serving refined Italian food and wine
• Spread & Co. – serves breakfast food
• Taqueria Anyeli – and it is not Texas without a great authentic Mexican restaurant

Bryker Woods is considered one of the best neighborhoods in Austin. Its neighborhood association, Bryker Woods Neighborhood Association (BWNA) works hard to maintain the area’s charm and keep its residents involved and informed.
