How To Prepare For ICE Raids: Know Your Rights!

Dear friends and clients of Lincoln-Goldfinch Law, I have been receiving phone calls and emails from many of you who are understandably very nervous about the recent Executive Actions.  I will be writing and disseminating an article soon about those executive actions and what they mean, but in the meantime I want to share some information with you quickly.

First, those of you from the seven countries (Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, and Somalia) listed on the travel ban, I recommend that you do not travel internationally unless you are a US citizen.  If  you are not from one of these countries but are Muslim or from a primarily Muslim country, please consult with me (or if you are not a client, with a reputable immigration attorney) before traveling internationally.

For those of you from other parts of the world, if you are in the country with legal status or have a pending application for legal status, try not to worry.  For those of you who are undocumented and have not begun an immigration process to obtain legal status, especially if you have an outstanding order of removal, I recommend that you be prepared for apprehensions.  I am sharing some information about how to prepare below.

Finally, please be aware that we are working to respond to your calls and emails as quickly as possible but have been receiving inquiries at a higher volume than normal.  I am so sorry that we are living in a culture of fear.  This is not what America stands for and I hope you take heart in all the protesters who are coming out in support of our immigrant community.  Stay strong and don’t lose hope.
