North Shoal Creek, TX

Located in north-central Austin, North Shoal Creek is bounded on the west by Highway 1 (MoPac Expressway), on the north by Research Blvd., on the east by Burnet Rd., and on the south by W. Anderson Ln. Established in the 60s, North Shoal Creek is a quiet, middle-class neighborhood.

Amenities

It’s a largely residential area with older residences situated in a quiet neighborhood with tree-lined streets. It is named after Shoal Creek, a creek running through northern and central Austin. Despite its suburban feel, North Shoal Creek has several businesses operating in the surrounding areas. Some of these are First Texas Honda, UFCU Credit Union Financing, Austin Subaru, and Austin INFINITI. 

There are also several schools within the area and in the surrounding areas as well. In North Shoal itself is Pillow Elementary School, Magellan International School, and Austin Elite Prep School. In nearby surrounding areas, are Burnet Middle School, St. Louis King of France Catholic School, Woolridge Elementary School, and many more.

Food & Business

Around the outskirts of the neighborhood are several dining options. There’s a District Kitchen on Anderson Lane. In the same area is Bartlett’s Restaurant, located in a strip mall with many other local businesses. Jack Allen’s Kitchen, El Dorado Cafe, and Lebowski’s Grill are some of the other restaurants in the area. 

Community

While the neighborhood itself is quiet and somehow serene with the older, well-maintained houses and tree-shaded streets, it is pretty close to the high-tech section of Austin where the modern tech companies are situated. Due to its ideal location, it appeals to many young families and young professionals. The quieter and slower pace also attracts older residents to the area. The prices of houses in the area are relatively affordable and make it an ideal choice for younger people starting families and careers. Apartments in the vicinity are also affordable and tend to entice students on a budget. This makes the population of the community very diverse and dynamic. The North Shoal Creek Neighborhood Association is active in keeping the community apprised of activities and issues concerning residents.
